Stem cells in pulmonary alveolar regeneration

چکیده
ABSTRACT The lungs are constantly exposed to the external environment and therefore vulnerable insults that can cause infection injury. Maintaining integrity barrier function of lung epithelium requires complex interactions multiple cell lineages. Elucidating cellular players their regulation mechanisms provides fundamental information deepen understanding about responses contributions stem cells. This Review focuses on advances in our mammalian alveolar epithelial subpopulations discusses insights regeneration-specific status We also consider how these inform post-injury repair processes diseases.

CHROMOSOMAL PROTEINS IN PULMONARY ALVEOLAR MACROPHAGES
In this study the nature of chromosomal proteins, his tones and nonhistone in resident alveolar macrophages was investigated in comparison to peritoneal neutrophils and calf thymus proteins. Cells were obtained by lavaging the lung and after purity determination they were subjected to fractional extraction procedures. Proteins were then analysed on SDS polyacrylamide gels and densitometric...
متن کاملEstrogen regulates pulmonary alveolar formation, loss, and regeneration in mice.
Lung tissue elastic recoil and the dimension and number of pulmonary gas-exchange units (alveoli) are major determinants of gas-exchange function. Loss of gas-exchange function accelerates after menopause in the healthy aged and is progressively lost in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The latter, a disease of midlife and later, though more common in men than in wo...
متن کاملStem Cells in Cartilage Regeneration
Cartilage is one of the chief structural tissues in the human body. Being resilient and smooth, it covers and protects the ends of long bones providing points of articulation at the joints and is a principal constituent of the rib cage, the ear, the nose, the bronchial tubes, the intervertebral discs, and many other body components [1]. It is not as hard and rigid as bone, but it is stiffer and...
متن کاملAlveolar stem cells in canine bronchial carcinogenesis.
Alveolar type II cells are not present in normal epithelium of canine segmental bronchi but after carcinogen exposure they do occur in intra-epithelial lesions with all degrees of atypia and in invasive lesions with different glandular growth patterns. Immunohistochemistry for proliferation markers (PCNA; Ki-67) strongly suggest that such novel type II cells are pluripotential stem cells in can...
